Why We Do It -
our inspiration in caring for dogs
Royvon is a family owned and run business with over 50 years in petcare in the UK. Roy James, the Founder of Royvon, owned & bred dogs since he was 10 years old. In 1958, Roy met his future wife and co-founder of Royvon, Yvonne. Yvonne also had an immense love for dogs and they both toured throughout the United Kingdom visiting dog rallies and shows. Royvon Boarding Kennels was established in 1959 in their hometown of Merthyr Tydfil. The business continued to grow and provide excellent service and was expanded to include a purpose built dog training facility where dog owners could meet for various dog-related activities.
After their parents had passed away son Darren and daughter Sarah, who had both grown up in the world of dogs, inherited the business and dedicated themselves to the pioneering work of creating what has become the UK’s leading residential dog training business. Darren had passed his first working trial qualification at the age of 13, and became a top-level dog handler and judge of German Shepherds in his teens, campaigning successfully throughout the UK. More recently Darren’s dog training skills led to a stream of accomplishments and awards including television appearances on Ant & Dec and “The Underdog Show”. Darren’s view on his dog customers are clear. “We are their companions. We believe our customers’ dogs are family members. Not in a ridiculous way, but in a caring human way – we view them as deserving of our respect and love. We have travelled the World looking at the best examples of dog boarding and training in action and have set out to create first class facilities and services here in the UK.”
At Royvon Dog Boarding & Training our goal is to improve the lives of dogs and their owners in all situations. Dogs are full of unconditional love and it’s our duty to give some of that back. Recently our boarding facility in Merthyr was named’ Animal Boarding Establishment of the Year’ in The Pet Industry Awards 2012. Of course it’s great to win awards but when you see in a customer’s eyes the look they get when they really understand that we care about their dogs just the way they do – when they really know that it’s true – well that’s a feeling that’s hard to describe. It’s overwhelming, it’s heartwarming. It’s the combination of immense trust and honorable service that makes us so proud of what we do. And it drives us to constantly be looking for ways to be even better. And that’s why we do it. We do it because we care. This is our story and this is Royvon Dog Boarding & Training!
